The disciples were gathered in a large house in Jerusalem. Suddenly they heard a loud noise from heaven, like a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house. The disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and received great power. Just think about Peter, who so recently had denied knowing Jesus. Now he stood in Jerusalem, speaking boldly about Jesus. What he said was so convincing that three thousand people were converted that same day. (Acts 2).
On that day, Peter became a new person. He suddenly became bold. He had received the Holy Spirit as a powerful motor inside him. We read in Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” We can use the example of a car. Cars have motors to drive them forward, not only on flat terrain, but also up steep hills. The Holy Spirit is exactly the same—a powerful motor. Before a Christian has received the Holy Spirit, you can compare him to a car without a motor. He finds it difficult to be bold and to confess the name of Jesus. He lacks a driving force in his Christian life. Others have to almost push him to get him to go anywhere.
If you would like a powerful motor inside, follow Peter’s instructions. He says that the Holy Spirit is given to all those who obey God. Acts 5:32. If you want to live a bold Christian life and live in victory over sin, try this! Obey the Bible verses you know. Then you will be filled with the Holy Spirit. Even if you meet steep hills in your life, this powerful motor will drive the car up and over the top of the hill. You will progress and become unstoppable.
